New in Teamleader Orbit: MCP. The AI you know now gets to work in Orbit.
Until now. The latest version of Teamleader Orbit comes with its own MCP server. It lets you connect Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini straight to Orbit. The AI you already use every day gets to work with your real clients, projects, hours and invoices.
And it doesn't stop at answers. You say what needs to happen, your AI does it in Orbit. No clicking through screens, no exports, no copy-pasting between tools. Anything you can do in Orbit, your AI can now do too: from scheduling work and filling in timesheets to creating quotes, invoices, tickets and reports.
Officially, MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. It's an open standard that lets AI agents work safely with other software. Think of it as the universal USB-C cable between your AI and the tools you use every day, like Orbit.
As far as we're concerned, it might as well stand for 'Makes Capacity Plannable' or 'Makes Chaos Predictable'. But rather than inventing more acronyms, here are a few real examples of how agencies are already using the Orbit MCP:
- "I asked Claude to look at our priorities and who has time available. It then made the planning for next week. All I had to do was approve it, and Claude put everything in the planner."
- "It felt like a few team members were struggling the last few months. So I asked my AI who hadn't had any free capacity in the past six months. Straight away I could see who we keep overbooking."
- "My Mondays always started with digging through reports. So I asked ChatGPT to send me the five biggest issues every Monday at 8am. Budget, capacity, hours, billing: I now know what my urgencies are."
- "An employee decided to move on to a new challenge. I asked Claude to find every project and task that person was working on. Claude suggested a replacement for each project and lined up all the changes in one go. My only job was to review and approve."
- "Chasing up missing hours on a Monday: I'd had enough of that. I asked my AI to tell me every Friday at 5pm who hasn't filled in their hours yet. That way I can sort it before the weekend."
Your AI gives answers and makes suggestions based on your own data, not your gut feeling. Give it the green light, and it executes as well. That way you avoid an overbooked week before it costs you overtime, for example.
When we built our MCP, one principle came first: you stay in control. Here's how the MCP protects your data and keeps you in charge:
- Your AI sees and does the same as you. Everyone logs in with their own Orbit account. Can't see a project? Then neither can your AI.
- Admins decide who gets access. There are two new rights for this: MCP read and MCP write. Give read access first, and write access only where it makes sense.
- You approve every action. Your assistant asks permission before it uses a tool. Our advice: set read tools to 'always allow' and write tools to 'ask me first'.
- No shared passwords or API keys. You log in once through a secure Orbit window.
An AI with write access can do a lot. So check what it proposes before you approve bulk actions, like finalising or sending invoices.
Activating the MCP takes five minutes. Here's how:
- Turn on access. An admin gives your role the MCP read right (and MCP write, if you want). Then refresh Orbit.
- Add the connector. In your AI assistant, go to 'Settings' > 'Connectors' and add a new one. Name it 'Teamleader Orbit' and use this URL: https://api.orbit.teamleader.eu/mcp
- Confirm. If your assistant shows a warning, click 'Add anyway'.
- Log in. A window opens. Sign in with your Orbit account.
- Ask your first question. Try: "Which projects are behind on invoicing?" or "Show my top 10 clients by margin."
Your AI already helps you with a lot of processes at your agency. Now let it take on the work in Orbit too. Turn on the MCP today and let us know what you do with it. We can't wait to hear from you!
